How do I prepare for a marathon?

The days before the marathon

  • research the topic
  • make notes
  • write first drafts, make first sketches, play around with melodies
  • (if possible) connect to people for collaborations & support
  • announce that you are participating on your social media platforms (You are welcome to use my announcement images.)

The day before the marathon

  • Cook a pot of soup or stew and make sure that you have enough food and beverages stored so that you don’t have to cook in between if you don’t want to.

  • Make sure you have all the pens, papers, brushes, programs, microphones or instruments you will need.

  • For storyteller: write lists with names, locations, professions, ages, so that you can easily pick characteristics for a story idea.

  • Have notes & and links to articles ready which you might use for a story, a song or an image.

  • Have a list of quotes from your books/works which might inspire a new story or could be used as snippets/contribution.

  • Prepare your website or your newsletter if you want to use either to publish longer stories.

  • Prepare boards for story snippets.

  • Make sure your workspace(s) is comfy.
  • Plan times where you write/draw/compose outdoors or in a café.
  • Make sure you can wear something you like (not just on day one).
  • Get a good nights sleep.

On the day, before you begin

  • Have a relaxed morning, preferably with some yoga and a walk in the park, in the forest or at the beach.

  • Cook tea & coffee.

  • Settle down.

  • Take a deep breath.

  • Begin.
