The beginnings of a restored planet

This story marathon is all about visions for a restored planet and how to get there.

I would like to include a wide variety of topics, all of which need addressing: the global food system, food security, food corporations and market dominance, farming and biodiversity, oceans and fishing, forests and rewilding, and everything else. A side issue for me is how a restored planet effects our health and our prosperity.

As a contributor you are welcome to add topics. As a scientist, activist or concerned citizens, you are also welcome to request a story on a topic, plant, fungi, animal or anything relating to the restoration of our planet.

I won’t make promises, but if I can, I am happy to provide you with stories which might help you to highlight an issue which has been neglected.

The end of crude oil

One of the things that fascinates me about crude oil is how thoroughly it has penetrated the lives of billions of people, and I’d like to take a look at as many products and uses as possible with the story snippets, always with the aim of envisioning how such products can be replaced.

One highlight I can already reveal: The Lego case – And yes, Lego could not only forgo plastic, it could also adopt a business model which empowers and is by nature balancing not dominating or destructive.

For this marathon I will have main foci for each day (just as a guide, I might not always go by it). But, please, feel free to make your own choices as to what you want to focus on with your contributions.

This is my plan:

Focus, day 1: plastic in all its forms, including micro-plastics

Focus, day 2: fossil fuels, travelling, transport, logistics, global economic system, energy demand (private & industrial), energy supplies, carbon capture

Focus, day 3: the oil industry, activism, Just stop oil, legal cases, and everyday products which use components of crude oil such as:

There is not much of a chance that I can cover all products, so I invite you to take your picks, too. There are products we don’t need to keep. But those which are useful need to be replaced so that we can end our dependence on crude oil.

All my books pick up issues related to crude oil and energy supplies, and that means, I’ll add quite a few quotes from the easy town books 1-3, from the dot.story which has a fun argument about fabrics and plastic, and from The end of all wars (mostly about transport, mobility & energy supply).

Let’s flood the world with stories which aim at a non-violent, quick end to the Trump administration, which challenge our own ways and how they might have contributed to this mess, and which explore ideas for political systems which keep us safe from rogues like this and which allow us to address all the urgent issues we need to face. And we can. We are strong together. This is our world. We can rethink and reshape it.
